His Excellency Dr. Khaled Al-Zamel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), accompanied by a delegation from the Authority, visited the "Taihan Kuwait" fiber optic cable factory in the Abdali Industrial Area, to review the factory's operations, production capacity, and quality control procedures.
His Excellency affirmed the importance of locally manufacturing fiber optic cables, as they are a fundamental component of telecommunications and data transmission networks, underpinning fixed internet services and the connection of telecom stations and data centers. He noted that having local production of these cables supports digital infrastructure expansion projects and maintenance work, while contributing to diversifying supply sources and reducing reliance on imported finished products.
He pointed out that developing industrial capabilities in this field is gaining increasing importance amid rising demand for high-speed connectivity, cloud services, and applications requiring large-scale data transmission, stressing the necessity of adhering to approved technical specifications to ensure the efficiency of fiber optic cables.
During the visit, the CITRA delegation reviewed the factory's activities in producing fiber optic cables, including those used for fiber-to-the-home connections and distribution networks, as well as the manufacturing stages and quality testing processes. The factory is the result of a Kuwaiti Korean partnership that combines international industrial expertise with local production.
His Excellency affirmed that industrial investments linked to the telecommunications sector create opportunities for knowledge transfer and the development of specialized skills in manufacturing, inspection, and quality control, thereby strengthening Kuwait's industrial capabilities and supporting its digital transformation needs.
