The Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Kuwait on Sunday to strengthen cooperation in the field of information and communications technology (ICT), supporting Kuwait's digital transformation priorities and contributing to the objectives of Kuwait Vision 2035.
Speaking at the press conference following the signing ceremony, Dr. Khaled Al-Zamel, Chairman of CITRA, stated that the MoU represents an important step toward strengthening cooperation between the two parties in areas of mutual interest. He expressed his confidence that the agreement will lead to the launch of value-added initiatives and projects that will further advance Kuwait's ICT sector.
Dr. Al-Zamel noted that the MoU reflects CITRA's commitment to establishing strategic partnerships that promote knowledge exchange, foster innovation, and keep pace with the rapid developments in the ICT sector, ultimately supporting the development of an advanced digital ecosystem and enhancing Kuwait's competitiveness.
He explained that the MoU establishes a framework for cooperation in several priority areas, including the exchange of expertise and knowledge, the exploration of artificial intelligence (AI) applications, cloud computing, and 5G-Advanced technologies, as well as supporting innovation, building national capabilities, and developing specialized talent.
Alex Dai, Vice President of Huawei Gulf Region, emphasized that the agreement will strengthen Huawei's collaboration with CITRA in promoting technological innovation and supporting the growth of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT). He added that the MoU will also contribute to developing Kuwait's digital capabilities, nurturing local talent, and strengthening the country's digital content industry.
On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Dr. Al-Zamel announced the launch of CITRA's strategic whitepaper, "Kuwait in the Era of 5G-Advanced and Artificial Intelligence," developed in alignment with the objectives of Kuwait Vision 2035.
He explained that the whitepaper serves as a strategic roadmap outlining the future direction for advancing 5G-Advanced technologies, enhancing indoor connectivity solutions, improving network intelligence, and accelerating digital transformation across various sectors, thereby supporting the development of a more competitive and sustainable digital economy in Kuwait.
Dr. Al-Zamel further noted that the whitepaper provides the strategic framework underpinning the cooperation between CITRA and Huawei under the Memorandum of Understanding. It will support the launch of joint initiatives, facilitate knowledge exchange, and strengthen national capabilities in emerging technologies, contributing to Kuwait's ongoing digital transformation journey.
