The Chairman of the Board of the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), Dr. Khaled Al-Zamel, affirmed that Kuwait's hosting of the Fifth General Assembly of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) has helped solidify a practical approach centered on AI governance and has strengthened the integrity of the digital information environment.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) during his participation in the open session of the Fifth General Assembly, Al-Zamel added that hosting the event reflects Kuwait's position as an active partner in shaping the future of the digital economy at both regional and international levels.
He explained that this phase marked a clear shift from exchanging visions and ideas to launching actionable initiatives and implementable frameworks for cooperation, thereby enhancing international coordination in addressing cross-border digital challenges.
Al-Zamel praised the efforts of DCO Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya and her pivotal role in developing institutional workstreams and strengthening the organization's international presence. He emphasized that the combined efforts of member states form the fundamental pillar for supporting the organization's goals and achieving its aspirations.
He noted that the progress achieved during this phase represents an advanced step in supporting international digital cooperation and reinforcing a shared commitment to building an inclusive, resilient digital economy based on responsible innovation.
For his part, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Communications Mishaal Al-Zaid said in a similar statement to KUNA that Kuwait's hosting of the Fifth General Assembly of the DCO reflects the growing international confidence in its role as an active partner in advancing digital cooperation and promoting multilateral dialogue on priority technological issues.
Al-Zaid affirmed Kuwait's commitment to supporting joint initiatives that contribute to building a more integrated and sustainable digital ecosystem, providing a platform for exchanging expertise and coordinating efforts among member states in a way that serves digital development goals, keeps pace with rapid transformations, and advances the digital economy at both regional and international levels.
Meanwhile, Acting Director General of the Central Agency for Information Technology, Najat Ibrahim, told KUNA that Kuwait's hosting of the DCO General Assembly reflects its leading role in supporting digital transformation regionally and internationally.
Ibrahim pointed out that the Central Agency for Information Technology, through its pivotal role, seeks to establish the foundations of an integrated national system aimed at enhancing digital transformation in cooperation with all relevant entities.
She explained that transferring the DCO portfolio from CITRA to the Agency comes within a strategic vision aimed at organizing roles and clearly defining responsibilities, enhancing institutional sustainability to ensure continuity of work, and adopting a clear methodology that supports the national digital economy agenda.
She affirmed that activating the Agency's role in international organizations reflects Kuwait's commitment to turning digital cooperation into tangible outcomes that contribute to advancing the digital economy and keeping pace with developments in artificial intelligence.
